My LinkedIn story

Marketing Goodness

When I first started on LinkedIn, I had a real love-hate relationship with it.
All my ‘corporate baggage’ came flooding back.

Who am I to talk about stuff and declare myself an expert?
Does anyone care? Is anyone watching? Is everyone watching? What will they think of me?
When will someone call me out?

So many things in my head stopped me from showing up. You see, I hadn’t stepped into who I was as a business owner yet, and all those thoughts stopped me from earning money.

Money is kind of a big deal if you want to do nice things and pay off a mortgage in Sydney!

So, I ditched those thoughts and decided to show up anyway – if I didn’t, I’d have to go back to a full-time corporate gig -no thanks! I committed to showing my face, posting content, and connecting with people.

And you know what happened? After about 8 weeks, my inbox started to come alive, people reached out to me to let me know they liked my content and work opportunities started to come in.

And I haven’t looked back. The leads still come in, I choose a LinkedIn posting schedule that works for me and the number of leads I can actually handle as a sole-trader.

I now share what I know with other business owners so they can get consistent leads too! There’s always plenty of work for everyone. Even the competition.

There’s opportunity to shine right now and I’d love the opportunity to show you how.

Content creators are rewarded

Many new features support content creators to get noticed and seen by people outside their network.

4 out of 5 people are decision makers

According to HubSpot research, senior people who can make decisions about working with you hang out on LinkedIn.

People are working with a budget

They work with companies with budgets to spend on services, just like yours.

Work-mode activated

LinkedIn is a professional network site, so when people hop on, they are in ‘work-mode’ open and ready to have conversations that help them do a better job.

You can Shine on LinkedIn

I’ve seen business owners get results and exert influence without a big brand name or budget.

Which I think is pretty cool! On LinkedIn you win by showing up and consistently telling the story you want people to remember about you.

It starts with having an awesome profile that showcases what you do and how you help.

Then go find your people. Start and join conversations in your area of expertise and share free, helpful info your audience will value.
Simples yeah?

But I get it. Not everyone loves LinkedIn like I do.
Pretty sure you’re checking this out because you’re tired of dancing on reels, you know the customers with money hang out on LinkedIn and you’ve heard how insane the organic (aka, free) reach is over on LinkedIn.

And it’s true. There’s a massive opportunity for creators right now.

Your problem is not knowing how to start and knowing what the ‘unwritten rules” are so you don’t sound like one of those
douche bags who overshare or spam your inbox with unwanted offers.

When you follow the step-by-step guide you’ll have clear actions and baby steps to level-up your profile.

Stand out for the right reasons with this guide showing the way.

Don't let these things stop you from showing up on LinkedIn

It’s totally normal to feel that way when you first start.
But let me tell you, when you start showing up in a way that’s aligned with what you want to be known for good things start to happen.

People start to think of you as an expert, trusting in your opinion and they seek you out.

Bob from accounts is always going to have something negative to say, but don’t let Bob stop you from doing great things. {Sorry all Bob’s}

Oh, hello imposter syndrome, welcome to the party. It is time to go now.

What if you flipped that voice in your head to say, I’m simply starting a conversation about a topic I’m passionate about?

What makes you an expert is YOU. Your unique perspective, experience and life moments.

I get it, social media can be one of the biggest time sucks as we lose ourselves in a vortex of entertaining content.

But, when you’re intentional about how you show up on LinkedIn you start to get results.
That is a great investment of your time.

You can also get good traction by only spending 15 minutes a day. Do you have 15 minutes where you’re mindlessly scrolling?

It may have started that way, but not anymore.

What LinkedIn looks like for you will depend on how you use it. The algorithm keeps serving content you engage with, so you can train it to only show you what you like.

There’s no-one quite like you, so you do you.
Ditch the rules about how you should ‘appear’ on this profesional channel and show up exactly as you are. People want to work with people, quirks ad all.

At it’s heart, LinkedIn is a social media channel, which means it works best when you hang around and do things in the spirit in which it was intended for.

Some no-nos
Don’t connect and spam with offers, don’t add too many people at once and don’t post content you wouldn’t want to appear as a news headline.
